Is Your Current Provider Secure?

There is a lot of misleading information on the internet regarding BlackBerry encrypted phones. PGP Encryption for BlackBerry in its basics is a very simple system. It uses a private and a public key system which is individual to each user. Some companies are releasing phones with a generic Private Key that allows the company to read all of the encrypted messages.

If you currently have a BlackBerry that’s encrypted and would like to see if you have a correct private encryption key please follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on Options
  2. Click on Security
  3. Click on PGP
  4. Click the BlackBerry Button
  5. Click Download Keys
  6. A pop up will say, "Downloading keys from the PGP Universal Server…" Do not click abort
  7. The next pop up should say, "Your keys have been downloaded from the PGP Universal Server"

If your BlackBerry device did not download the keys from the universal server, your phone is not properly encrypted and all of your private communications have been compromised. We strongly suggest contacting your provider and look at some new options.

If your BlackBerry device successfully downloaded the keys from the universal server, your private communications are secure.
